Interceptive Orthodontics
Interceptive orthodontics is the first step to having correct jaw relationships and regular tooth alignment. As with all other pathologies, prevention or early treatment gives the best results.
Interceptive orthodontics aims to detect the emergence of dento-skeletal problems in early childhood. Occlusion and jaw development checks begin at the age of 4-5 when children become cooperative and are followed continuously throughout growth until puberty.
If treatments begin at an early age, skeletal problems can be prevented or minimized. At these ages, removable “functional” appliances can be used, which, depending on the case, can promote or inhibit the growth of jaw and facial bones.
Interceptive orthodontic appliances are intraoral and escharoral, and sometimes they can also be fixed by being attached to the teeth. Fixed interceptive appliances are used to correct transverse discrepancies of the upper jaw and are called “rapid expanders”.
If this anomaly is not corrected at this point, then this problem will also be transferred to the lower jaw, and when growth is complete, the only solution to have a regular relationship between the jaws is orthognathic surgery.
Therefore, to avoid surgery and achieve the best possible results, it is advisable to consult an orthodontist as soon as your child turns 5 years old.
Fixed Orthodontics
When we talk about fixed orthodontics, we mean an appliance that is constructed from a system of plates (brackets), bands, tubes, wires, and elastic ligatures. Fixed appliances are the best solution for correcting the alignment of teeth and remain the only solution for treating severe alignment anomalies.
The plates are attached to the outer surface of the tooth, but in certain cases, if the opportunity allows, they can also be placed on the inner surface, thus becoming invisible. The wire is changed every 2 or 3 months, progressively increasing its thickness and strength. The treatment lasts about 2 years, however, this depends on the type of anomaly.
The traditional fixed system uses metal plates which are the only solution for difficult cases. In addition to metal plates, aesthetic plates can also be used. The ideal is for treatment to start at the age of 12-14, but fixed orthodontics has no age limit, so it is never too late to have a beautiful smile.
Aesthetic plate appliances
One of the biggest problems for patients wearing orthodontic appliances is the appearance of metal attached to the surface of the teeth, thus affecting their daily life. To overcome this aesthetic difficulty, thanks to advanced technology, metal plates can be replaced with ceramic plates or sapphire plates.
Ceramic plates are tooth-colored, while sapphire plates are transparent, making it really hard to tell if they’re there. However, the wire that runs through each plate always remains metallic and is actually the only visible component in these devices.
Damon System

The Damon system does not use rubber ligatures to secure the wire that passes through the metal plates, but uses a passive mechanism like a door, which reduces friction and allows teeth to move faster, without damaging the bone or gums.
